The 5 modules

Print the syllabus
  1. 01

Health and safety law and risk assessment

A commercial kitchen is one of the busiest and most dangerous places to work in hospitality.

  2. 02

Slips, trips and the working environment

Slips and trips cause more injuries in kitchens than anything else. Most happen on wet or greasy floors.

  3. 03

    Burns, scalds, knives and machinery

Hot oil, steam, sharp blades and powered machines are part of every kitchen.

  4. 04

    Chemicals, gas and electricity

Cleaning chemicals, gas appliances and electrical equipment are everyday hazards that can cause serious harm when used wrongly.

  5. 05

Lifting, first aid, accidents and fire

This module brings together the last pieces: moving loads safely, what to do when someone is hurt, how accidents are reported, and the basics of fire safety.

Course content based on the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the regulations made under it and guidance from the Health and Safety Executive.
